The finishing of your guitar is going to express a lot about you, so make sure that you really think it through. Unless of course you are rolling in cash and plan on make a bunch of these just for fun. But for us normal people who might do this once maybe twice remember to truly think it over.
When finishing your guitar you will either paint or stain it and then you will lacquer the crap out of it. To start off with use some strong scraps to make a fake neck to hold the body by and a quick extension to hold the neck by (do not stain and lacquer with them hooked together). You need to do nine to twelve coats of the stuff. Best thing to do is spray the neck then spray the body then the neck will be dry enough so go back and spray it again. It keeps going in that back and forth, but remember to only do three coats at a time. Then they need to dry for 24-48 hours. Then before spraying again wet sand it with about 320 grit paper (don’t worry about getting every flaw out now, it will come). Then spray and repeat. After the last time you need to polish it.
